Kudu

Kudu 2020

Welcome to Kudu 2020. This year we have been set back by storm Desmond and Covid 19 but they can’t stop us!

Teams of up to 6 people from the Explorer Scout section or Network Scout section can compete by completing these challenges as a team. All challenges will be able to be completed face-to-face, socially distanced, on a hike, via Zoom or working together as a team via Social Media. This will allow for any local lockdowns which might occur.

To register please sign up here.

The winers will be the team who have the most overall points. To gain the most points, your team should complete as many of these challenges as you can. Below you will find all the challenges for your teams to compete in along with a submit button linking to a form for all your evidence. There is also a leadership board so you can keep up to date with how your team is doing.

Entry’s of your evidence are now open and close Sunday, February 28th at 23:59. The Kudu 2020 winner will be announced via a Zoom meeting in early March.

We would like to all members of your team getting involved with as many challenges as possible but please choose your best attempt for your submission to be judged.

All of your other photos and videos can be uploaded on social media. We would love to see what you’re getting up to so use #hskudu2020 and tag us @HampshireScouts.

Good Luck!

Challenges

Forced Perspective photo

Take a forced perspective photo. Photos are going to be judged on:

  • Originality
  • Related to ‘Scouting’ somehow

It must be a real photo (not a drawing or cartoon). It can be edited in a photo editing software but any images used should be your own.

Let’s get Physical

This challenge is to do press ups for one minute. Make a video to show how well you have done. It will be judged on:

  • Effort
  • Impressiveness

Accessibility Notes.

If you can’t do this – find an alternative that is an equal physical challenge for yourself.

Terrific Trebuchet

Create a Trebuchet (must have a swinging arm) to fire a woggle the furthest distance. You can use whatever you like to construct it – you can use existing items or spend up to £5.

It will be judged on:

  • Distance
  • Build

Please send in a video as evidence.

Carved Fru-table

Think Halloween, carved pumpkins but instead your challenge is to carve any fruit(s) or vegetable(s) to have the best carved fru-table (fruit and/or vegetable).

It will be judged on:

  • Originality
  • Effort

Please send in a photo with a short description of what your creation is.

What floats your boat

Create a boat out of paper to hold the most weight. This will be done by adding chicken’s eggs until it sinks.

This will be judged on:

  • Construction
  • Amount of weight (measured in eggs)

Please send in a video of you adding the eggs.

Bizzare Pyramid

Create the most bizarre pyramid which must be 3 layers high. You must have 3 on the bottom layer, two on middle layer and 1 on top layer.

You will be judged on:

  • Bizarreness

Please send in a photo and add a short description of what items you have used.

Wacky Machine

Each segment must involve one or more elements and be filmed separately. The last thing on the previous video must be the first thing on the next. ie. if the last thing on one video is a rolling tennis ball then the next one must start with a rolling tennis ball.

The last part of the machine must unveil a ‘Kudu’ flag at the end (can be a piece of paper or whatever you want).

Edit all the parts into one sequence and send in this video.

This will be judged on:

  • Originality
  • Imagination

An example Rude Golberg machine can be seen here.

Keep Fit

We want you to use Joe Wicks as an inspiration & for you to come up with your Scout keep fit video.

It should be no more than 2 mins and at least 2 members of the team should be in the video.

Innovative uses of the humble paperclip

We want you to to think of 20 alternative uses for a paperclip, the wackier the better! We also what to see these alternative uses in action. Please send in a list of ideas and some photos accompanying.

No body parts are to be pierced in the making of the video. 🙂

Pack your bags!

We want you to try pack a bag in under a minute whilst blindfolded!  With these items:
